Posterior thalamic radiation

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optic_radiation

“…the optic radiation (also known as the geniculocalcarine tract, the geniculostriate pathway, and posterior thalamic radiation) are axons from the neurons in the lateral geniculate nucleus to the primary visual cortex. The optic radiation receives blood through deep branches of the middle cerebral artery and posterior cerebral artery.”

[Function: The optic radiation contains feedforward tracts that transmit visual information (from the retina of the eye) from the geniculate nucleus to the visual cortex, and also feedback tracts from the visual cortex to the neurons in the LGN that project to them. The function of the feedback from the visual cortex back to the LGN is unknown. The optic radiation is activated during working memory tasks. The optic radiations are usually unilateral and commonly vascular in origin. Field defects, therefore, develop abruptly, in contrast to the slow progression of defects associated with tumors.]

[[ Arbeiten, in denen die Ausagen der Befraten/Untersuchten als Zitate aufgeführt sind, finde ich enorm hilfreich – wie hier in dieser obigen Arbeit. Beispielzitate daraus: ]]

·       I took an SSRI for 6 months, became increasingly depressed and suicidal, then tapered off.

·       The myth that people relapse if they are not on medication still informs the practice of most psychiatrists in my experience and they still believe the chemical imbalance hypothesis.

·       The hell endured in protracted withdrawal is the stuff of demonic nightmares.

·       Getting off the antipsychotic I was on has freed me from toxic psychiatry, brought more feeling, authentic emotion, more life, and more appreciation of life.

·       Withdrawal is the worst, indescribable, socially isolating experience.

·       I had to do this all on my own, I lost everyone and everything important.

·       Why are the pharmaceutical companies not accountable for the damage they have caused to so many.

Association between prenatal exposure to antihypertensive medication and neurodevelopmental and educational outcomes in children

Discussion: In this large, unselected population cohort, ASD was associated with prenatal exposure to anti-hypertensive medication; specifically, beta-blockers. The association was independent of lifestyle, maternal and pregnancy confounders and appeared to be partially mediated by birth outcomes including birthweight, gestational age at delivery and Apgar score. …

The most common antihypertensive medications used during pregnancy are methyldopa, labetalol, and nifedipine with different safety profiles. …

Importantly, ASD was not associated with untreated HDP, suggesting a potential medication-specific effect rather than an effect of the underlying condition. …

Therefore, our findings that both treated HDP and untreated HDP were associated with learning and communication difficulties contribute to the limited existing evidence. …

We found no evidence that either HDP or anti-hypertensive medication were associated with ADHD in offspring. …”

A sensorimotor basis for facial expressivity differences in autism

https://europepmc.org/article/MED/41230421

Abstract: …Critically, we demonstrate that upper face actions are selectively diminished in autism, and that the relationship between sensorimotor connectivity and facial behavior diverges between autistic and nonautistic individuals. These findings offer the first direct evidence of a sensorimotor basis for altered facial expressivity in autism, challenging long-held assumptions about the underlying mechanisms of this communication barrier and pointing toward new targets for therapeutic intervention.”

--

Aus dem Fulltext:

“…Compared with facial expression perception, little work has been published addressing the etiology of atypical facial expression production in autism. This bias has created a significant knowledge gap regarding how autistic individuals’ emotions are understood by others and reinforces unsubstantiated assumptions about the relationship between emotional expression and the experience of emotions in autism. Moreover, it has led to an absence of evidence-based, autism-centered interventions targeting this critical communication barrier.

The production of facial expressions is a sophisticated sensorimotor behavior that involves precise contraction of the facial muscles guided by dynamic sensory feedback. Given that (i) facial expressions are a sensorimotor behavior, (ii) sensorimotor deficits are a core characteristic of autism (American Psychiatric Association, 2013), and (iii) other facial sensorimotor functions such as feeding and speech are disrupted in autism, sensorimotor differences may contribute significantly to atypical facial expression behavior and represent a potential therapeutic target. …”

Psychiatrists Do Not Apologize

https://www.madinamerica.com/2025/11/psychiatrists-do-not-apologize/

“…In other words, psychiatrists destroyed our lives. …

The failure to apologize brings untold pain to us victims. …

For four years, from the age of sixteen until the age of twenty, I was tortured by American psychiatrists who suffered under the delusion that homosexuality was a mental illness. …

Saying that homosexuality was a mental illness was not the only mistake that psychiatrists made and that affected my life in tragic ways. The other mistake was their assumption that schizophrenia is incurable. …

My story is obviously a scandal, for it raises a very important question: since psychiatrists were wrong in saying that homosexuality is a mental illness and that schizophrenia is incurable, then is it possible that they are wrong about everything else? …

Psychiatrists want their patients to think that they know more about their patient’s life than the patient does. However, the psychiatrist only knows what the patient tells him, and what the patient tells the psychiatrist about himself is only a very small fraction of what the patient really knows about himself. I remember sitting in front of so many psychiatrists who had nothing to say because they knew nothing about me. They knew nothing because I realized quite rightly that they were not intellectually equipped* to begin to understand the complications of my life, the problems of my mind and the mysteries of my soul.

I believe that the only true cure for mental illness is love. …

Psychiatric abuse is a gigantic taboo. We victims should make our voices be heard.”

„Phantasie/Vorstellungskraft ist wichtiger als Wissen, denn Wissen ist begrenzt.“ „Ich habe keine besondere Begabung, sondern bin nur leidenschaftlich neugierig."

New Evidence in Support of Tapering Protocols for First-Episode Psychosis

https://www.madinamerica.com/2025/11/new-evidence-in-support-of-tapering-protocols-for-first-episode-psychosis/

“…Treatment guidelines generally support trying to discontinue antipsychotics in patients diagnosed with ‘first-episode psychosis’ after one or two years of initial use, but these guidelines also advocate preventing relapses*. Consequently, the guidelines often lead to first-episode patients being maintained on antipsychotics indefinitely, as discontinuation is associated with an increased risk of relapse. …”

https://www.madinamerica.com/2025/11/commentary-does-first-year-treatment-with-an-antipsychotic-lead-to-long-term-harm/

“…three notable efforts of this kind all found that a significant percentage of first-episode patients recovered without exposure to antipsychotics, and that it was this never-exposed group that had the best long-term outcomes. …

So yes, it is heartening to see the drug-tapering studies. But what is also needed, and needed badly, are studies that assess long-term outcomes with selective-use models of care that avoid immediate use of antipsychotics. This Dutch study reinforces that need, for it does raise a question of whether a first year of treatment with antipsychotics, even at a moderate dose, induces iatrogenic changes in the brain that persist and take a long-term toll*.”

Antidepressant Withdrawal: Finding an Astronomical Perspective – A Conversation with Safa Askeri

https://www.madinamerica.com/2025/11/antidepressant-withdrawal-an-astronomical-perspective/

… Askeri: I believe that mainstream psychiatry is probably the same all over the world. It has got differences, but I think it’s so misleading and terrible because of the many myths in psychiatry, like withdrawal doesn’t happen, and all those side effects can be blamed on your mental health condition. I think I witnessed this kind of iatrogenic injury in the hospital vividly. It was so terrible for me.

After I found that I was being sabotaged by this medication, I also found that I was gaslit for many years because of the horrible side effects I got from these medications. If I reached out to psychiatrists, instead of addressing the withdrawal, they’d always blame my OCD and anxiety. …

I think the mindset we had was totally wrong because we thought that this medication was going to fix the chemical imbalance. So it’s nothing to do with you, and you have to lie down and wait for a moment for this chemical to fix your brain. But it was not like that. It’s your job to fix your underlying problem by addressing the root cause. …

I think we have to connect with each other, no matter how far apart we are. We have to eliminate all those wrong interpretations and just feel the humanity. Humanity, I think it’s the most important thing in the world. …

Just give yourself time and continue the process because you’re going to see the light in the end of the tunnel and it’s such a great experience.

Siem: Thank you so much, Safa. I think your light and your wisdom are just remarkable, and I think you’re going to help a lot of people. Thank you for taking the time.

“…There’s no denying the enormity of suffering this condition inflicts. I personally know individuals who’ve been housebound for over a decade, too sick to leave their homes, trapped in relentless symptoms: nerve pain, dystonia, crushing fatigue, sensitivities to sound, light, touch, even food. This adds to the reasons why protracted withdrawal is often misattributed and misclassified.

Its prevalence is also underestimated. …

Women Likely to Be Retraumatised by ECT: Disturbing Findings from a New Survey

https://www.madinamerica.com/2025/11/women-more-likely-to-be-retraumatised-by-ect-disturbing-findings-from-a-new-survey/

“…The mental health system often fails to respond in ways that support survivors to heal. Women deserve non-medicalised evidence-based options and choices, not retraumatisation. … We also know that women are at greater risk of harm because of their lower seizure thresholds, which may account for their reported worse outcomes. This is a fact recognized for over 30 years and recently reaffirmed by the American Psychiatric Association (2025). As a result, the same electrical dose is likely to cause more cognitive damage in women. …”

The Damage Doesn’t End When the Drugs Do: Diana Rose on Psychiatry’s Long Shadow

https://www.madinamerica.com/2025/11/the-damage-doesnt-end-when-the-drugs-do-diana-rose-on-psychiatrys-long-shadow/

“Ayurdhi Dhar interviews survivor-researcher Diana Rose on her long-term adverse experiences from psychiatric drugs, survivor knowledge, and the humiliations built into the system. …

She is someone with lived experience of madness, a service-user, and a survivor. In a previous interview, we discussed her pathbreaking work on user-led research, which values the knowledge of people with lived experience.

Since that interview, Rose has been diagnosed with drug-induced Parkinsonism caused by the scores of neuroleptics she was put on over the years. In this rather intimate interview, we will discuss her life, her struggles, and how other patients had better knowledge about treatment adverse effects than most practitioners. We will also cover how, contrary to popular belief, psychiatric drugs have continuing adverse effects even years after stopping them.

You really never thought about psychiatry as a schooling in humiliation? Of course, it is! It makes you think about all the things that are wrong with you as a normal human being. …

I don’t want to come across as 100% anti-antipsychotic*. They can be OK in a very short term, like a week or two, so you can start to talk about what’s happening to you. But not for 20, 40, 50 years. …”
